Alex's shorts with colorwork

Materials:
4ply yarn in two colors C1 and C2 2mm needles

Abbreviations: 
See post from 4 January 2024

Shorts
Begin with one leg 
With C1 cast on 28sts 
Knit 1 row
Stst 4 rows
Row 5: (C1 k1, C2 k1) rep this to end
Tie yarns with arrows together to secure
Row 6: (C1 p1, C2 p1) rep this to end
Rep rows 5 & 6 once more
With C1 stst 4 rows
With C2 stst 2 rows, cut C2
C1 stst 6 rows
Cast off 2sts at beg of next two rows, cut yarn and keep stst on holder
Knit another leg the same or swap the patterns. 
Do not cut yarn.
Knit over both legs (48sts) 
Stst 10 rows
1x1 rib 3 rows
Cast off in rib
Sew crotch, sew back and sew leg seams.

Row 6 and all alternative rows: p
Row 7: k9, p2, k25
Row 9: k10, p2, k24
Row 11: k11, p2, k23
Row 13: k12, p2, k22
Row 15: k13, p2, k21
Row 17: k14, p2, k20
Row 19: k15, p2, k19
Row 21: k16, p2, k18
Row 23: k17, p2, k17
Row 25: k18, p2, k16
Row 27: (k1, p1) across
Row 28: (p1, k1) across
These two rows form the moss st pattern
Rep rows 27 & 28 once more
Cast off in pattern
Sew up back seam.

This is the last item for Sammy's closet. We will complete Alex's closet and then move on to something else.  So keep watching...

Begin with one leg
Cast on 28sts
1x1 rib 1 row
Stst 20 rows
Cast off 2sts at beg of next two rows
Cut yarn and keep sts on a holder
Knit another leg but do not cut yarn
Knit over both legs (48sts)
Next row: p
Next row: k
Now start to divide: 
Back: p12
Cast on 6sts, k to end (18sts)
Starting with a p row stst 7 rows
Cut yarn and keep these sts on a separate needle
Rejoin yarn for center and p 24
Row 1: k1, k2tog, k to last 3sts, k2tog, k1
Row 2: k1, p to last st, k1
Rep rows 1 & 2 another three times (16sts)
Cut yarn and keep sts on a separate needle
Rejoin yarn to other 12 sts for back and cast on 6sts, p18
Stst 8 rows
Now do not cut yarn. Knit over all sts as follows:
K12 form back, place the other 6sts behind the center sts and knit 1 st from both needles 
together x6, k4 from center, place the other back sts behind the center and knit together 1 st
from each needle x6, k12 from back (40sts)
Next row: p
1x1 rib 2 rows
Cast off 12sts in rib, rib 16, cast off 12sts in rib
Rejoin yarn and k3, p10, k3
Next row: k
Next row: k3, p10, k3
Rep the last 2 rows ten times more
Knit on the first 3sts only:
Knit 40 rows
Cast off
Rejoin yarn and cast off 10sts, k to end
Knit 39 rows
Cast off.
Sew crotch, back and leg seams. Sew straps to back after crossing at back.
