Sammy's handbag

The first level of the range is now complete and therefore this pattern is just a bag to put the finishing touch to all the clothes already in the closet.  It can easily be changed by knitting in another stitch pattern, using different colours or adding decorations.

Cast off 

Sew sides

Strap

Sew strap to sides of bag.

Materials: 8ply yarn in 2 colours and 2mm needles

Test square: 2.5 x 2.5cm  = 8sts and 10 rows stst using 8ply and 2mm

With C1 cast on 33sts

Garter st 2 rows

Change to C2 and stst 2 rows

Now begin pattern stitch:

Row 1: k3, *p7, k3* rep *-*

Row 2: p

Row 3: k3, *p7, k3* rep *-*

Row 4: p

Row 5: k3, *p7, k3* rep *-*

Row 6: p

Row 7: k3, *p7, k3* rep *-*

Row 8: p

Row 9: p3, *k7, p3* rep *-*

Row 10: p

Row 11: p3, *k7, p3* rep *-*

Row 12: p

Repeat rows 1 – 12 of pattern

Cut C2 and change to C1

Garter st 4 rows

Stst 6 rows

Next row: 1x1 rib 8, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k5, k2tog, rib 8

Next row: rib 8, p14, rib 8

Next row: rib 8, k14, rib 8

Repeat these two rows another 3 times

Next row: rib 8, p14, rib 8

Next row: cast off 8, k14, cast off 8

Now knit the top in two separate pieces

Rejoin yarn to first 7sts

Garter st 26 rows

Cast off

Rejoin yarn to the other 7sts

Garter st 26 sts

Cast off

Sew the two top pieces together, sew back seam.

Pants

Begin with one leg

Cast on 18sts

Garter stitch 1 row

Stst 38 rows

Next row: Inc 1 st at beginning and end of row (20sts)

Stst 5 rows

Next row: Inc 1 st at beg and end of row (22sts)

Stst 7 rows

Next row: Inc 1 st at beg and end of row (24sts)

Stst 9 rows

Cast off 3 sts at beg of next two rows (18sts)

Break yarn, keep sts on a holder or spare needle

Knit another leg the same but Do Not Cut Yarn

Knit over both legs (36sts)

Stst 5 rows

Next row: k8, k2tog, k16, k2tog, k8 (34sts)

Stst 3 rows

1x1 rib 4 rows

Cast off in rib patt

Sew crotch, back and leg seams. 

Sammy's long sleeve shirt and pants works great for pj's. I knitted the top throughout in garter stitch. Also added garther st to the bottom and top of pants.

Row 27: cast on 26 sts (sleeve), k to end

Row 28: cast on 26 sts (sleeve), k2, p66, k2

Row 29: k

Row 30: k2, p66, k2

Rep rows 29 & 30 another three times.

Row 37: k27, cast off 16sts, k27

Row 38: k2, p25, cast on 16 sts, p25, k2

Row 39: k

Row 40: k2, p66, k2

Rep rows 39 & 40 another three times.

Row 47: cast off 26sts, k to end

Row 48: cast off 26sts, p to end (18sts)

Stst 20 rows

Garter st 6 rows

Cast off

Stst 60 rows

Next row: cast off 3 sts, k to end

Next row: cast off 3 sts, p to end

Cut yarn and keep sts on a holder or spare needle

Knit another leg but Do Not Cut Yarn

Now knit both legs together (40sts)

Starting with a purl row stst 9 rows

1x1 rib 5 rows

Cast off in rib pattern.

Sew crotch, back and leg seams. Match with a shirt of your choice.

Next row: cast on 26 sts for sleeve, knit to end (52sts)

Next row: cast on 26 sts for sleeve, knit to end (78sts)

Garter stitch 10 rows

Next row: k33, cast off 12 sts, k33

Garter stitch 9 rows on the first set of 33sts, leaving the other 33 on a holder. 

Cut yarn and keep this on a holder. 

Rejoin yarn to the unworked 33 sts and garter stitch 10 rows, DO NOT CUT YARN

Next row:  k33, cast on 12 sts, k33 from holder (78sts)

Garter stitch 10 rows

Next row: cast off 26sts, k to end (52sts)

Next row: cast off 26sts, k to end (26sts)
