How much is one pattern worth?

Final post of Project 1 Ball
What is a single pattern worth?

2587 minutes or 43 hours, 7 min and 100g yarn I have designed and knitted 7 patterns...
1 swimsuit
1 hat
1 slip on dress
1 shorts
1 skirt
1 short jumpsuit
1 bolero
1 long sleeve dress
1 long overall
3 shirts
And 3 bags
Total of 15 pieces

Minimum wage is AU$24.95/hr × 43.12 = $1075.76
Add material (yarn $4 and buttons $1) = $1080.76 (cost price)
$1080.76 ÷ 7 (patterns) = $154.39

To conclude, 1 pattern is worth $154.39. I get (after fees) $3 per download pattern
I have to sell a single pattern 52 times to be reimbursed the cost price.

This is also why no designer work on hourly rates. We can never be paid the time we put into this.

Hope this was helpful and gave you a proper look to what is really behind a pattern. It is truly a craft of love.

I have added some photos of mix and match outfits. So if you buy all 7 patterns there are ways to create even more outfits. Try different colours and mix & match. Just have fun.

How to support this blog

How can you support me without purchasing patterns? To help, follow these steps:

 1. Access the web version and click the Follow button located at the top right side to receive notifications for new posts.

2. Leave a comment directly on my blog post, as Facebook comments are not visible to my blog. Your feedback, whether a simple thank you or acknowledgement, is invaluable. This will enhance my blog's visibility and prevent it from being overlooked.

Currently, I do not qualify for advertising due to limited engagement, causing my links to be considered spam. Each platform operates independently, making interactions on Facebook, TikTok, and other platforms essential. Engaging with my content through likes, comments, and shares can significantly impact my online presence.

Once I qualify for ads, will you be required to pay for patterns on my blog? No, you will not. I will receive a minimal reward for ad clicks, making it challenging to generate income through my blog.

To create content and support myself, I need to increase my online visibility and presence. Your support in every way possible is greatly appreciated.

Project 1 Ball: Behind the Scenes of Pattern Publishing

This project aims to showcase the creative process involved in publishing a pattern in an engaging and entertaining manner. Typically, only the designer is aware of the efforts that go into publishing a pattern. Through this project, I intend to raise awareness about the amount of work required, from start to finish.

Step 1: Source Yarn
To initiate the process, it is necessary to acquire yarn. This can be achieved by either purchasing a new ball of yarn or selecting one from an existing stash.
In this instance, I have chosen a ball of yarn from my drawer. The regular price for this yarn is AU$4.00, with an additional delivery fee of $20.00. Notably, the local shop does not carry this brand.
I have attached two pictures of the yarn prices at the shop. 8ply yarn is more economical than 4ply yarn, which is why I exclusively use 8ply yarn for fashion dolls.

Disclaimer
This is how I personally do this. Other designers might use different tactics.
